2023 Art Basel Shows

A look into this year's festivities in Miami.

Art Basel Miami, the “Olympics of the Art World,” is the centerpiece of what has become a full-fledged week of art all over Miami, everywhere in town there are treasures to be found in dozens of satellite shows, museum exhibits, displays in hotels, and shops.

Art Basel takes over the 1.4 million-square-foot Convention Center midweek attracting  79,000 visitors to view booths set up by 277 leading international galleries. Already open the day before, Art Miami Context and the satellite shows, Untitled and SCOPE, are open in giant tents on the beach and waterfront.

Farther afield, the Faena complex presents an annual Faena Art exhibit, this year titled Spaces of Influence: Shaping Community in the Modern World. AQUA takes place in the Aqua Hotel with booths set up in each unit. The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) commandeers studios in the Ice Palace a former skating rink with hammocks and picnic spaces scattered in the yard and the Satellite Art Show is an immersive installation set up in a Halloween store. The historic Hampton House Hotel, famous as the setting of the film “One Night in Miami” and for hosting  frequent guests Mohammad Ali and Dr. Martin Luther King was the site of Gimme Shelter, an exhibit exploring the meaning of shelter, refuge, and congregation.
