The heart of one’s home is often found in the kitchen, a place where anything from nightly meals to weekend fetes are prioritized above all else. This notion especially rang true for a Cos Cob family whose tight-knit dynamic and love of entertaining act as the foundation of their household. Having a functional room for congregating with loved ones and hosting fundraising events was essential, considering their prior layout was hindering the ability to cook and convene comfortably.

In hopes of rectifying their predicament, they sought out Nukitchens for their expertise in space planning. The company overhauled the entire first level and transformed the choppy floor plan into the singular, streamlined expanse of the client’s dreams. Principal Designer Heather Rumore spearheaded the renovation which focused on creating one large space where workflow, storage, and appliance placement were seamlessly unified.

The hospitable concept behind the client’s vision stuck out to Nukitchens. As a family-operated business, no one has a greater understanding of how important warmth and practicality are to a home. “We had a great connection with our clients on this project – it felt like kismet how their goals aligned with ours,” said Nukitchens Director, Gabriella Najmy.

When it came to crafting the focal points of the room, the clients requested a five-foot Galley Workstation. The piece was the driving force behind the design of the free-standing island and ensured that the family could prepare and clean up after meals together. Furthermore, a focus on the cooking wall was imperative. The rangetop, pot filler, double ovens, and warming drawer were included to accommodate the family’s passion for the culinary arts.

For a sleek look, Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry was used to conceal the dual refrigerators, dishwashers, and additional Sub Zero and Wolf appliances. The white and blue paint hues were tailored specifically to fit the client’s preferences. To attain the desired ambiance, natural and recessed lighting were added to enhance the brightness throughout the space.

Maintaining cohesion while defining spatial function was another primary goal of Rumore’s, who chose to separate a wet bar and butler’s pantry from the main kitchen area. The division proved vital to keep foot traffic apart from the two zones. The walnut interiors, decorative hardware, and hammered copper sink in the wet bar give it a distinct tone that compliments the surrounding decor. Mixing cocktails is made easy due to the purposeful proximity of the wine storage, beverage refrigerator, and ice maker.

One of the most luxurious aspects of the renovation comes in the form of the butler’s pantry. Outfitted with a microwave, gourmet coffee machine, additional full-sized refrigerator, and third dishwasher, the workspace offers the functionality of an operating kitchen with the privacy necessary to keep the main countertops spotless. “The butler’s pantry was envisioned for entertaining,” Najmy confirms, noting that the seclusion allows the homeowners to serve fresh canapes without dirtying the space in which guests assemble.

This high-level design service was not your typical remove-and-replace kitchen remodel. Rumore and the Nukitchens team oversaw the entire renovation efforts, created a fluid design concept, and supplied top-notch cabinetry, appliances, and accessories to achieve the owner’s dream kitchen. No matter the size, Nukitchens approaches each project with sensitivity, aware that a kitchen update has the ability to revolutionize a client’s lifestyle.
