A.L.C. Opens First Brick-and-Mortar Location, Designed by Janson Goldstein

Janson Goldstein, a NYC firm responsible for over 40 Intermix stores and Neiman's that's coming to the Hudson Yards next year, among many other projects, just completed A.L.C.'s first-ever brick and mortar location and flagship store in SoHo in conjunction with the brand's 10-year anniversary.

The entire project from brief to the opening day was completed within four months where Steve Scuro (architect, partner) quickly developed a strategy using founder Andrea Lieberman's concept and vision for the store in terms of mood, finishes, touch/feel and a strong of desire to draw from her New York and California roots. Following her vision, they were able to transform the long, narrow SoHo space into a series of three rooms with archways, allowing A.L.C. to tell different stories within their collection and the customer to move seamlessly through a series of intimately proportioned spaces.

Our design decisions and direction really spring from what makes each brand unique and looks to reinforce that uniqueness in a three-dimensional way. We don’t do “cookie cutter” approach and we don’t impose the same aesthetic on each brand."

This includes drawing elements different parts of the brand’s heritage, such as playing into Andrea's bicoastal roots and world travels where you'll find archways, skylights and vintage furniture finds from downtown New York that are paired with California-made fixtures in concrete, marble, and travertine while shades of pink, off-green and Bordeaux in luxurious velvet materials. Other materials include custom colored off-green wool area rugs on sales floor. In fitting rooms, this color is set off against the pale pink concrete tile floor and pink velvet draperies.

They are also designing A.L.C.'s first LA store in Pacific Palisades and the first shop-in-shop in Bloomingdales on 59th, both set to open this September.
