Award-Winning Composer Johnny Mandel Lists $20M Cliffside Malibu Home
Legendary Hollywood composer Johnny Mandel, who is 94 years old, just listed his longtime Malibu home. According to Variety, the cliffside California haven has been owned by the Mandel family since 1971 when they snagged it for a mere $120,000. Now, the award-winning composer who has worked with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Peggy Lee and created the *M*A*S*H theme song is seeking $20 million for his exquisite residence.
Offering just over an acre of land, this property is all about its surroundings. Entering the home, potential buyers will barely feel as if they are indoors at all. The open floor plan combined with huge windows allows for maximum sunlight and Pacific Ocean views. The midcentury modern design also contributes to interiors being light and airy.
It’s clear that Johnny Mandel is a phenomenal entertainer, winning Grammys and Oscar awards for his work. Though it remains up to the imagination if the famous composer has been as enthusiastic about entertaining in his home. It certainly has great entertaining space to offer and he no doubt could have quite a glitzy guest list. The great room with extended seating area, dining area, wine tasting room, and wet bar all connect to the outdoor living areas; which is perfect for all hosting scenarios. Whether guests would prefer lounging on the multiple decks and patios or sitting poolside, the home has a plethora of relaxing spots.
Malibu all together is an affluent area full of stunning homes, with recent listings including American entrepreneur Eli Broad’s estate and the former rental of fashion designer Marc Jacobs. Mandel’s oasis is clearly one to cherish as he did so for decades. It has four bedrooms and five baths, with an additional guesthouse adding up to 4,095-square-feet of breezy interior space.
