Betty White’s Cherished Seaside Sanctuary in Carmel Lists for $8M

The late, great Betty White, who passed away at the end of 2021 just before her 100th birthday, stands amongst the most beloved figures of our time for her pure and unadulterated loveliness. Not to mention, the trail she blazed in television. Matching her endlessly admired qualities is her longtime Carmel home, built decades ago with her third husband, Allen Ludden. A very special spot for the very special actress, the oceanfront property is now on the market asking $7.95 million.

White and Ludden, who married in 1963, finished construction on the home together in 1981—just before Ludden’s untimely passing. Meant to be a vacation retreat for the two of them, the California residence then became that for Betty throughout the rest of her life.

Listing agent Nicole Truszkowski shares, “As revered as Betty White’s public image was in real life, she was a private person. Betty’s home in Carmel was her special sanctuary and it was one of her favorite places to recharge and rejuvenate…Spending time in Carmel was one of Betty’s favorite things to do. She enjoyed many treasured moments with her family and close friends. The home embodies the spirit of Betty and Allen, it was eloquently understated with the focus on nature and the natural beauty surrounding the home.”

Set directly on the water, the estate is indeed pristinely private with an emphasis on the coastal location. Holding four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and one half-bathroom spread across three stories and 3,621 square feet, it’s a great size for getting away from it all with a few lucky guests. Outdoor decks and vast windows steep in views of the Point Lobos Nature Reserve and Ribera and Monastery Beaches for total tranquility.

Truszkowski and Zak Freedman of Sotheby’s International Realty hold the listing.
