Beyoncé and Jay-Z Lose Out on East Hampton Waterfront Lot to the Peconic Land Trust
Though they could have been ‘Crazy in Love’ with it, Beyoncé and Jay-Z just lost out on an East Hampton stretch of land overlooking Georgica Pond. The Carters were not the only interested party after the blank canvas hit the market for $11.75 million in September 2021 and the sellers received quite a few bids. Those at the Peconic Land Trust worked some magic, it seems, as their offer of $8.5 million was ultimately successful.
Town & Country Real Estate’s Linda Batiancela listed and sold the property. Batiancela explained, “There were multiple offers being considered before the Peconic Land Trust contacted me in early November to discuss. The owners decided to pass on other higher offers and make a deal with the Peconic Land Trust for $8.5 million for preservation purposes.”
While they didn’t land it, Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s interest in the empty lot isn’t all that surprising. Back in 2017, the power couple picked up a property on the very same pond for $26 million. That home, aptly named “Pond House,” was listed with Compass for eight years before the superstars swept in. Spanning 12,000 square feet, the seven-bedroom home is about as grandiose as they come. It’s easy to imagine that since this sliver of land was in some way close to their Hamptons residence, perhaps the celebs were embarking on the creation of a veritable vacation kingdom.
But, nobody will ever know. Those 300 feet of Hamptons waterfront, adjacent to the Fulling Mill Farm Preserve and less than a mile from the beach, will now be preserved with the trust as its steward.
