A Billionaire Sells Bob Hope’s Former Estate in Highest Toluca Lake Sale Ever
Bob Hope, the British-American comedian who appeared in over 50 movies, lived much of his prosperous life in the same Toluca Lake home. The Hopes built their ideal estate in 1939 and the entertainment icon lived here up until his death in 2003. Needless to say, the Bob Hope Estate is a crown jewel of the area, but it just became legendary in a whole new way.
The 5.2-acre property just changed hands, clinching the title of the highest residential sale ever in Toluca Lake and one of the top three sales in San Fernando Valley as a whole. Billionaire Ron Burkle was the seller, originally listing the home in May of 2022 for $29 million. After less than a year on the market, it sold for $26 million.
Over the years, renovations have helped the nearly 15,000-square-foot home to maintain its original architectural integrity yet function for luxe modernity. In the true spirit of California living, the estate just 10 miles northwest of Los Angeles enjoys seamless indoor/outdoor living for easy al fresco enjoyment. Especially for golf lovers like Hope. He created a one-hole course right on the property.
Walls of glass look out onto the manicured landscaping done by Art Luna while wood and stone accents inside foster a traditional, natural aesthetic. The spacious main floor flows easily between entertaining-ready zones like a chef’s kitchen and multiple living areas. Hope’s original oak library has been artfully restored as well.
The sprawling property holds the main house as well as a two-bedroom apartment, rounding out for a total of 10 bedrooms and 17 bathrooms–two of which are allotted for staff. Kevin Dees of The Agency held the record-breaking listing.
