Birkenstock Heir Lists $9M Manhattan Penthouse
Alex Birkenstock, heir to the Birkenstock shoe company, has just listed his opulent penthouse at the Setai Wall Street for $8.99M or as a $25,000/month rental.
Those familiar with the Birkenstock brand will be surprised at the tailored style of this 2-bedroom spread (The New York Post declares “there’s nothing hippie-dippy about it”), but it is in fact full of classic treasures like a 1000 lb steel-and-brass safe from the Bank of France, reclaimed hardwood floors from the Portuguese embassy in Paris and hand-cut blue stone tiles from Belgium. A 50-foot wall of windows takes advantage of the views of the Statue of Liberty and One World Trade Center, while retractable glass garage doors in the living area allow for a flexible layout. The loft comes furnished, which means that the new owner will inherit the curated mix of pieces that decorate the 3,500 square feet including Napoleon III chairs, vintage French leather club chairs and various mid-century modern items. Daniel Hedaya and Khashy Eyn of Platinum Properties represent the listing.
