Celebrating the Art of Living at the 2018 Designer House Tour and Champagne Brunch

Last week, C&G Media Group had the pleasure to attend Near & Far Aid’s 2018 Designer House Tour. With a theme focused on "Celebrating the Art of Living," the self-guided tour took us to six beautiful homes in Southport, Fairfield, and Westport, all of which encompassed their own unique style and design elements as envisioned by the homeowners and their respective designers.

Walking through the homes, it was incredible to learn more about the work–both aesthetically and internally–that went into each space, which, remarkably included a home that was on the brink of demolition.

Following the tours, we enjoyed a delicious brunch at The Patterson Club where Kim Meier, president of Near & Far Aid, took the stage. Kim shared more about their mission, which is to "eliminate poverty in Fairfield County by finding and funding programs that seek to achieve lasting change.” She also shared a video, showing examples of how the impact of such programming changed lives by provided sustainable housing and living options for those impacted by poverty.

The brunch also included the opportunity to listen to renowned architect Greg Tankersley of McAlpine who shared highlights of his illustrious career, designing for people all over the world including celebrities, such as Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. His greatest joy is to help homeowners create a timeless living space that reflects how they feel on the inside. The privilege to design a home, as Greg remarked, “is a blessing.” He added, “Designing a house is an intimate endeavor, it’s a permanent and inheritable representation of a person. The invitation always finds me honored and humbled.” Following the presentation, Greg was on-hand to sign copies of his book, Poetry of Place: The New Architecture and Interiors of McAlpine. After a day of design inspiration and giving back, it was apparent that there is nothing better than the comfort of home. And thanks to the incredible work of Near & Fair Aid, many families in Fairfield County can experience this immense joy as well.
