Designer Jenni Kayne Sells a Completely Reimagined Santa Ynez Ranch for Full Ask

Jenni Kayne, famed for her eponymous West Coast-inspired lifestyle brand and for designing interiors filled with inviting neutrals and natural textures, recently sold a stunning California property. The renowned designer with a signature laidback yet high-end style and her husband, top real estate agent Richard Ehrlich, bought the 20-acre ranch for $950,000 in September 2020. After a remodel that took the existing house down to the studs, they listed the renewed Santa Ynez beauty for $6 million in November 2022 and it just closed at full ask.

Yes, the skilled couple with rich expertise in real estate, design, and California living pulled off quite the winning flip. And, that was the plan. According to Forbes, this flip project was embarked upon intentionally, with Kayne’s company CEO scouting out 3226 Live Oak Road as an ideal property to renovate.

Happily, Kayne was no stranger to the area. The designer told Forbes, “I’ve been going to the Santa Ynez Valley my entire life. My godparents owned a property in Woodstock Ranch. So I love the area, the landscape, the views, the rolling hills and the live oaks. This incredible property was utterly neglected and in foreclosure. But you could see that it had good bones, and it could be a great California ranch single-story with these beautiful, vaulted ceilings.”

When touring the four-bedroom home now, it’s easy to see that Kayne took embracing the ranch-style architecture and 360-degree views seriously. Her affinity for neutral-forward, natural design presents an ideal complement to the home’s green surroundings. As well as enjoying the freshly redone 3,860 square feet of interiors, the lucky buyer can indulge in daily outdoor living with relaxed gathering spaces and a dreamy pool and spa.

Closing the chapter on this design/real estate success story, Richard Ehrlich of Carolwood Estates and Laura Drammer of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services represented the property in the sale.
