‘Dirty Dancing’ Producer Wants Almost $6M for This Picture-Perfect Pound Ridge Home
Released 35 years ago in 1987, there aren’t many people who haven’t heard of the cult film Dirty Dancing. It starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, but as always, those working behind the camera were just as important in making it all happen. And, one of the film’s producers was Mitchell Cannold who just happened to list his Pound Ridge, NY home for $5.985 million.
Transformed from a simple mid-century modern into a fully smart home, renowned architects Gilles Depardon and Kathy Ogawa helped bring the structure to where it is today. Keeping in mind seamless entertaining opportunities and beautiful views, the house is cited for complete privacy, hidden in the trees. Glenn Ticehurst is credited for the exquisite landscape design, directed by Mr. Cannold who was inspired by Maya Lin’s Wavefield at Storm King Art Center.
There’s more than enough room to recreate those iconic Dirty Dancing scenes throughout the 8,147-square-foot home, but perhaps the most striking space is the dramatic foyer that opens into the living room. Wall-to-wall windows look out onto the home’s 6.5 acres of property, a picturesque view in any season. The eat-in kitchen designed by Scavalini is any minimalist’s paradise, featuring sleek cabinetry and countertops, of course with modern furnishings moving into the dining room.
In total, the home holds six bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and three half bathrooms, each soaked in warm light with beautiful flooring. An even bigger plus is that every bedroom has its own walkout patio. If the property hasn’t quite hit all the marks for you yet, just know that brands like Diet Coke, Samsung, Zara, and Bruno Magli have used it as a backdrop for photo shoots. So, clearly the property is camera-ready.
Mr. Cannold could have had ‘The Time of His Life’ at the property, but all good things must come to an end. Nancy Strong and Stacey Oestreich of Douglas Elliman hold the listing.
