Ellen DeGeneres' Montecito Estate Lists for $45M

A fireplace anchors the library.Ellen DeGeneres’ Montecito estate is nothing short of showstopping and it can now be yours for a cool $45M.

The talk show host and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, are no stranger to house flipping—they sold a Beverly Hills estate to Ryan Seacrest for $37M in 2012 and currently have a Beverly West apartment on the market for $7M—but this estate was one they never intended to sell. In DeGeneres' 2015 interior design book Home she wrote of this home, "I really do hope that we live here forever," but a spokesperson for Sotheby’s International Realty, who is representing the sale, told Mansion Global that the couple is selling because they are unable to spend as much time there as they intended. DeGeneres and de Rossi bought the 17-acre property in 2013 and renovated every inch of the 10,500-square-foot home that sits on it with custom touches including a barrel-tiled roof, 18th-century Italian tiles and 9 wood-burning fireplaces. Stone excavated on the property was used to build an indoor-outdoor entertaining pavilion and the grounds also feature two swimming pools, a sunken tennis and badminton court, groves of eucalyptus and olive trees, gardens and fountains. Suzanne Perkins of Sotheby's International Realty is the listing agent. Mansion Global originally reported the news.
