Former Home of Hollywood Legend Bette Davis Lists for $20M
Old Hollywood actress Bette Davis’s former Laguna Beach home has hit the market. Built in 1929, the French Normandy-style estate pays homage to its past while embracing modern Californian vibes. Seeking almost $20 million, the near 6,000-square-foot home is more than just a beach house. Decades after Davis lived here, it also represents the celebration of a woman who changed the entertainment industry.
Looking back on Bette Davis’s life, there is much to admire. Earning herself the title as “The First Lady of the American Screen,” Bette Davis is a Hollywood legend in more ways than one. Vanity Fair reports that she was the first person to ever earn 10 Oscar nominations. Even with her clear success, Davis’s career presented challenges as many women in Hollywood experience. Despite the obstacles or film giants she faced, she did not give in. According to Vanity Fair, Bette Davis took on Warner Bros. in court for more control of her career and better roles. Although she reportedly lost the lawsuit, her roles and pay were boosted, and it paved the way for future women in the industry to fight back and not settle.
Holding the legacy of her monumental career, Davis’s past home is a true gem. With six bedrooms, five bathrooms, and three half baths, the estate presents exquisite vistas of the water from every room. Especially from the main suite’s spacious terrace on the upper level.
One can’t forget about the tremendous amenities either, including a large bar area, media room, wine cellar, expansive gym, and a separate guest house.
The listing is held by John Cain of Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty.
