Former U.S. Ambassador to Australia Places Downtown Manhattan Loft on the Market

While you might think a U.S. Ambassador of Australia could get hooked on living down under, with great surfing and sunshine around you, John Berry seems to have a soft spot for New York City. Or, at least holds property here.

Berry was appointed by former president Barack Obama and served his Australia ambassador role from 2013-2016. Now, eight years after his three-year stint in Australia, the political figure is making moves in New York City and just listed his unique FiDi loft.

Sitting in a circa-1900 building, which is now a co-op, the two-bedroom unit has a quirky floor plan that seems quintessential of Manhattan’s character. The two-story great room with stunning moldings and plenty of natural light is open to a clean-lined, contemporary kitchen. This space alone might be enough to sell buyers on the majestic Nassau Street pad, but more charming spots await elsewhere. Specifically, the primary suite with the home office mezzanine above has a magical feel to it that lays the foundation for a new owner’s bold or cozy decor.

Richard Rothbloom of Brown Harris Stevens holds the NYC listing.
