‘Golden Girls’ Star Estelle Getty’s Former LA Home Hits the Market
This summer, the soft pink ranch that starred as the exterior on Golden Girls made a rare appearance on the market. Now, the former home of one of the Golden Girls themselves is showing up as well. The late Estelle Getty, who starred as Sophia Petrillo on the hit sitcom, lived at this adorable Los Angeles abode for close to seven years—buying it through a trust in 1994 and selling it in 2001 for almost $1.5 million, according to Mansion Global. Now asking a substantially steeper $6.89 million, it’s easy to see why Getty put down roots here.
Situated on a half-acre lot a stone’s throw from Sunset Boulevard, the 4,356-square-foot home is guarded behind sleek black gates within the Lower Doheny Estates. A stylish black-and-white marble entry sits behind the front door, and high hedges shield the entrance for added allure.
The circa-1948 house has five bedrooms, five total bathrooms, chic living areas, and a cool 1,700-bottle wine cellar. Its traditional, 20th-century charm is maintained throughout with crown moldings and French doors and windows. Blending historic styles, one wood-burning fireplace even has a marble mantle dating back to the 1800s that was imported from France.
However, the golden home has its updates. The current owners, who purchased the property from Getty, renovated the kitchen with freshened finishes and the addition of a walk-in pantry. One thing they didn’t adjust? The stunning grounds and patios around the pool, an utterly private escape near the center of the city.
