Steel and glass helped the design team create modern flair while adhering to the historic area's strict architectural parameters.

When strolling down the tree-lined, prestigious lanes of Greenwich, Connecticut, you pass many exceptional properties. It’s no exaggeration to say the finest manors fill this tony town, which has attracted many famous past residents. Tommy Hilfiger, Regis Philbin, and Mary Tyler Moore just to name a few.

But, some homes manage to raise the bar even higher. That’s the case with a striking, 13,000-square-foot new build tucked in the Greenwich countryside. East Coast and West Coast vibes flawlessly mingle at the clean, transitional residence to create a lavish yet tranquil environment. A vision of steel and glass sourced from All the Details, it was meticulously created by a dream design team. And, HOBI award-winning developer Joe Granitto of Greenwich Custom Homes led the charge.

While Granitto has earned high esteem building luxury homes for 25 years, this project was personal. He shares, “My family and I were originally planning to move into the home, so I built it with specifications around what we wanted.” Of course, that meant nothing but the best.

When the longtime developer pivoted and decided to sell, the transitional masterpiece became an unexpected treat on the market. California buyers swooped in and purchased the bespoke home, which could just as easily fit into suave L.A. neighborhoods like Beverly Hills or the Pacific Palisades.

Long before this change of course, Granitto tapped Cardello Architects and designer Laura Michaels of Laura Michaels Design to help craft his forward-thinking, transitional home. Michaels calls it “Cali-cool,” which is oh-so-appropriate considering the new owners are from that very state. However, some strict parameters had to be adhered to when aiming for an out-of-the-box look in such a historic area.

Michaels reflects, “The white brick exterior was a requirement from the architectural review board of the community. They would not approve a more contemporary design. But, the open plan is a contemporary layout, and therefore the home never feels traditional.”

The front plays into Greenwich norms with Georgian Colonial style, but the rear exterior tells a different story. A 20-foot, two-story wall of steel, aluminum, and glass from All The Details delivers a sleek West Coast feel that delights. This incredible design feature soaks the great room in sunlight and is the cornerstone of the property’s modern flair, which subtly begins with the contrast of the dark steel on the classic white brick facade.

“To keep the home feeling contemporary, metal windows and doors were a must,” asserts Michaels. “The architectural impact of these elements truly made the home from the inside and out.”

Altogether, the design encompasses 3,000 square feet of steel, glass, and aluminum openings from All the Details. Wood elements also contribute to the sense of laidback modernity and sophistication. White oak flooring carries through the open spaces to create a relaxed, inviting atmosphere ideal for all occasions. And, that was what Granitto was going for. “We have a large extended family and love to entertain, so we built and designed around creating a hassle-free and livable but elegant home.”

Indeed, the seven-bedroom home encapsulates what luxury living means to people today. It’s a refuge where everything is high-end, but nothing is stuffy. “The kitchen and most of the bathrooms feature engineered stone versus natural stone as the clients were adamantly opposed to having precious material that could be ruined from a spilled glass of red wine,” Michaels says. “They wanted to live worry-free and let everyone enjoy themselves.”

In every way, it’s a party house meant for connection and leisure. A myriad of glamorous destinations for fun exist, especially on the lower level where a two-lane Brunswick bowling alley, golf simulator, home theater, gym, spa, wine cellar, and stylish sauna await.

In the great room, a 20-foot window wall made of All the Details steel and glass elevates the entertaining experience while an adjacent floor-to-ceiling wine wall, pool and covered terraces outside are ready for summer soirées. “All the Details’ steel and aluminum windows and doors speak for themselves,” Granitto said. “Apart from the quality of the design and materials, the team was responsive and collaborative through the duration of the project.”

Selling for top dollar, this new build is a success story that provides a brilliant blueprint for high-end developers and house flippers. It showcases what discerning homeowners desire: Vast open spaces, transitional finishes, and a variety of places to host. The evolution of the luxury home is less formal yet still refined.

If you’re designing, building, or renovating with luxury in mind, prioritizing the quality of your materials is critical. Connecticut and Florida-based brand All the Details was the hinge in this masterful project, giving the residence a bold punch with steel, aluminum and glass elements that will endure.
