With trends from the 1980s likely to make an impact on the design world in 2023, here are six spaces that incorporate pastels pretty perfectly.
Kate Smith Interiors incorporated pastels in the breakfast nook at the Hartford Designer Showhouse. The space takes inspiration from the roses in West Hartford’s Elizabeth Park. “I wanted the room to bring the feeling of the rose garden to life—colorful and feminine with a mix of natural elements and bright glossy accents,” Smith says.
Fiona Leonard Interiors designed the pretty-in-pink entryway using a rosy mauve at the Hartford Designer Showhouse in June.
This Bridgehampton home decorated by Amy Lau is full of energized pastels. The living room features a Gio Ponti armchair, a circa-1950s Paolo Buffa sofa, and a pair of Ezio Longhi armchairs. The rug is from Tai Ping.
Cornflower-blue velvet chair seats complement the sky-colored botanical silhouette wallcovering, both by Schumacher. The floral-patterned seat backs are Cowtan & Tout silk, and the polished nickel and crystal chandelier is by Aerin. Tour the rest of the Greenwich colonial here.
Mabley Handler Interior Design’s second furniture collaboration with Kravet plays the starring role in the 2022 Hampton Designer Showhouse’s “serene and soft” living room, which also features a pair of velvet-upholstered 1950s Italian armchairs and a 1970s Murano glass chandelier from Venfield. The large canvas is by Robert Dash.
Interior designer Susan Bednar Long uses a palette of pastels throughout this weekend getaway. Den walls in Benjamin Moore’s Violetta cleverly complement chairs from the Bright Group wearing blue faux leather from Maharam and contrasting geometric cushions covered in a Kravet fabric.
