1/18Photographs by Acocella Photography courtesy of Re/Max Town and CountryComedian, actor, and musician Jackie Gleason was a creative soul with a penchant for entertaining on and off screen. The most convincing proof of this may be the spaceship-esque house he commissioned architect Robert Cika to build in 1959, which was a direct product of the star’s unique vision and has a one-of-a-kind design. If you have $12 million to spend, seize the rare opportunity to own this architectural marvel filled with fun features.Appropriately named “The Mothership,” the circular main house offers 3,950-square-feet of living space, measuring 50-feet in diameter. Light pours in from all angles thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass walls. In the middle of the house, a spiral staircase exudes midcentury glamour and leads down to the lower level, aka the party level. A grand piano sits atop the exquisite marble flooring, which came from an Italian quarry Gleason bought specifically to aid the project. Once you cross through the center, of the room there are various lounge areas with ever-present views of the lush forest. Guests can flit from space to space with ease, and the large bar is always nearby. The 8.4-acre property boasts two other structures as well, offering a total of five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and four stocked bars. With that in mind, it’s safe to say Gleason’s Old Hollywood parties were rarely cut short due to lack of space or libations. The current owners elevated the level of entertaining further in the 1980s with the addition of two pools.Howard Payson of RE/MAX TOWN & COUNTRY has the Cortlandt, New York listing, which Curbed first reported.Photographs by Acocella Photography courtesy of Re/Max Town and CountryComedian, actor, and musician Jackie Gleason was a creative soul with a penchant for entertaining on and off screen.
