Heavy-hitter director James Cameron has seen some incredible sets from Titanic to Avatar. But, since the late 1990s, he has had his own other-worldly habitat to retreat to. The movie mogul and his wife, Suzy Amis Cameron, have long owned this 102-acre estate in Southern California within Hollister Ranch. Brimming with diverse terrain and views, from the hills to the beach, and tons of native vegetation, this paradise is meant to be explored. And now, serious buyers can as it just listed for $33 million.
The Camerons, who also spend time living in New Zealand, are dedicated to environmental efforts. A place of peace and sustainability, their California ranch is home to a solar power system, wind generator, pastures, horse stalls, trails, gardens, a private well, and more. The couple even told the Wall Street Journal that they have been able to grow so much produce on their property that they could add to the food provided at MUSE Global, the school they founded in Los Angeles.
Peeling through the verdant property, you’ll find an 8,000-square-foot, glass-and-wood main house the pair remodeled to better harmonize with the location. The director told the WSJ, “The previous owner had had a lot of marble. We brought it back down to something that felt connected to the land.”
Other highlights tucked throughout the jungle-like landscape include a 2,000-square-foot guest home, pool, helicopter pad, and tennis court. There are extensive trails to trek and a 24,000-square-foot barn where the movie mogul has tinkered with hobby projects involving vehicles, helicopters, and more. One understated spot is the home’s backyard seating area, a well-used vantage point for the Camerons. It was there that the duo would often end their days taking in breathtaking sunsets and ocean views with drinks in hand, per the WSJ.
Hollister Ranch is a private area perfect for those invested in preservation. Thanks to its Home Owner Association regulations, it maintains over 14,000 acres of undeveloped land and 8.5 miles of private shoreline preserve, though some people are now pushing for public access.
