Local Hamptons Flavor

Try a picnic with these pairings from the East End's finest purveyors.


 

 

FOOD: Lobster rolls from the Seafood Shop (356 Montauk Hwy., Wainscott, 631-537-0633, theseafoodshop.com).   
WINE: Bedell Cellars Taste White 2011 ($35), an enticing white blend of Sauvignon blanc, Viognier, Chardonnay, and Gewürztraminer with tropical aromas and flavors of citrus and stone fruit. The aromatic wine has just an 11.5 percent alcohol content and is ideal with shellfish.

FOOD: Sausages from Ceriello Fine Foods (352 Montauk Hwy., Wainscott, 631-537-8157, ceriellofinefoods.com).
WINE: Channing Daughters 2009 Sculpture Garden Red ($30), a spicy, juicy red with flavors of blackberry and plum and an overlay of earthy, smoky notes. From the winery’s oldest vines, it’s a blend of Merlot with small quantities of Italian and Austrian grape varieties.

 

 

FOOD: Fried chicken from Red Horse Market (74 Montauk Hwy., East Hampton, 631-324-9500, redhorsemarket.com).
WINE: Sparkling Pointe 2009 Brut ($29). This crisp sparkler has the right acidity to cleanse the palate and goes well with all fried foods, with lovely aromas of citrus, pear, and pastry.

 

FOOD: Fresh raspberries and blueberries from the roadside stand at Marilee Foster’s farm (Sagg Main St., Sagaponack, 631-537-1014).
WINE: Wölffer Estate 2011 Diosa Late Harvest ($37), a lush honeyed wine with hints of apricot and lime and a wonderful mouthfeel. Its sweetness is balanced by a racy acidity, making it a great dessert wine to serve with berries.


FOOD: Homemade pie from Briermere Farms (4414 Sound Ave., Riverhead, 631-722-3931, briermere.com)—it’s worth the detour, particularly for the peaches and cream!
WINE: Macari Vineyards 2010 Block E ($40). An ideal dessert wine for cream pies and cheesecakes, this blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, and Pinot gris is rich with peach, pineapple, and honey flavors.

 

FOOD Grilled summer squash, sweet corn, cauliflower, and eggplant from Pike Farmstand (82 Sagg Main St., Sagaponack, 631-537-5854, pikefarms.com).
WINE: Paumanok 2012 Dry Rosé ($15). This bright salmon-pink rosé, a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, has refreshing flavors of cranberry and apple. Medium-bodied, it pairs well with a range of grilled vegetables and antipasti.
