On May 19th, the stunning museum-level renovated residence will head to auction with a minimum bid set at $1.65 million. In addition to its appropriately Mad Men-esque midcentury vibe, the home has the feeling of just being dropped into the middle of the San Rafael Hills.Beamed ceilings, built-in shelving and brick fireplace add to the rustic 1950s feel. But not to worry, this cozy abode has been updated thoroughly to ensure it’s sufficiently modern with updated plumbing, electrical, roofing and climate control. The kitchen is also fully updated with brand new Miele appliances and a breakfast bar for two. The home’s meager 1,885-square-feet of space should feel sufficiently larger due to double height ceilings and multiple patios and decks compounded with the immersive views of the San Gabriel mountains experienced through the surrounding floor-to-ceiling glass walls and doors. The house was originally designed in 1957 by the renowned architecture firm of Conrad Buff, Calvin Straub, and Donald Hensman. This trio is most notably known for their work on the Case Study houses, which have a similar feel to this three-bed, three-bath home nestled in the Poppy Peak historic district of Pasadena. The home even includes a detached carport style garage with pops of gold that echo the accents of the main building.According to Curbed, real estate firm Deasy/Penner will sell the house via Plumbid in what’s sure to be an energetic auction.Mad Men star, Jon Hamm, has also been making real estate moves, specifically in Manhattan and Los Feliz.Photographs by Cameron Carothers, courtesy Deasy/PennerScott Hornbacher, producer of the Emmy and Golden Globe winning television series, Mad Men, has recently renovated his 1957 post and beam home.
