Founded by British couple Tom and Ruth Chapman, luxury shopping destination MatchesFashion has grown in strides since its brick-and-mortar Mayfair launch in 1987. Now, the brand delivers to over 176 countries. The couple found themselves a stylish real estate match in the form of this West Village townhouse, and they just parted ways with the swanky spot. Listed in July of 2022 for $25 million and going into contract in December, the duo’s Manhattan home switched hands in January for $23.14 million.
Although the new owners have yet to be revealed, the 1910-built property certainly has an esteemed track record of former owners. According to the New York Post, the Chapmans purchased the home for $19 million in 2017 from oil heiress Aileen Getty, who had originally purchased it for the same price from Adam Dell—the venture capitalist who shares a child with food personality Padma Lakshmi.
Fashionable and fresh yet strutting with its own personality, the six-level 4,875-square-foot home has been gut-renovated by architect Steven Harris and has it all. The garden and parlor levels make up the heart of the home where everyone can gather, displaying a curated mixture of white space and elegant patterns and colors. The chef’s kitchen has top-of-the-line appliances and a center island, while industrial-esque casement doors open out onto one of the green balconies.
The upper levels hold the private spaces, with the primary suite occupying the entirety of the second floor. There are a total of five bedrooms and five bathrooms, allowing enough space for friends and family to stay and visit. A gym and media room also await the new owner.
