As a former senior vice president of Meredith Corporation and CBS Television Distribution, Brown Harris Stevens’s James Blueweiss is no stranger to high-stakes deals. After growing up on the water in South Bellmore, New York, Blueweiss studied marketing and communications at the University of Wisconsin with dreams of getting into show business.
Over three decades—while living in New York City—Blueweiss sold countless shows, including such hits as Martha Stewart Living, Home Again with Bob Vila, and Better Homes and Gardens. Another beloved project came in 2007, when he purchased the intellectual property rights for the iconic New York City nightclub CBGB and launched a series of licensing ventures and experiences to breathe new life into the brand.
And a couple of years ago, Blueweiss decided to use his hefty rolodex to pursue another passion, real estate—this time out East, where he has owned a home for 25 years.
“I can actually pinpoint my love of show business and real estate to the episode of I Love Lucy in which Lucy and Ethel go on a bus tour of celebrity homes in in Beverly Hills,” says the agent. “I saw it as a kid, and while I was on a family vacation in Los Angeles at the age of 12 I made my parents do our own driving tour. Even now, when my friends visit the Hamptons, my favorite thing to do is take them on a driving tour of celebrity houses.” This longtime love of homes and professional erience marketing design talents hast nim up perfectly for a new chapter.
“I’m also a people person,” says Blueweiss. “You meet a lot of strong, bright, demanding people in showbiz, and being able to navigate different personalities is important, whether you’re dealing with a celebrity or a real estate client.”
