4/14Photograph Courtesy of Nick JohnsonAfter sitting empty for five years, a 90-year-old carriage barn on 20 acres was given new life by Brindisi & Yaroscak Custom Builders and architect Christopher Pagliaro of Pagliaro Bartels Sajda Architects. The structure was in complete disrepair with the exception of its perimeter, which was constructed of 22-inch-thick local stone. The entire roof, all floors and all non-stone elements were replaced. The exterior was designed to preserve the stone, with additions constructed of glass or slate. The garage is a flat-roofed box—translucent except to provide a peek at each corner and to expose the steel structure. The rounded chimneys are clad in roof slate.Photograph Courtesy of Nick JohnsonAfter sitting empty for five years, a 90-year-old carriage barn on 20 acres was given new life by Brindisi & Yaroscak Custom Builders and architect Christopher Pagliaro of Pagliaro Bartels Sajda Architects. 12/14Photograph Courtesy of Sandro De CarvalhoThis project by Hertz Construction follows an agricultural vernacular for a farmhouse and barn look using exposed post-and-beam elements, metal roofing and vertical siding. The innovative breezeway structure was conceived as an invisible link between the house and garage allowing each structure to float and read as separate elements. A tubular steel structure was used in the breezeway to maximize glass area.
