1/9Photographs courtesy of Douglas EllimanOne would be hard-pressed to find any shared character traits between Meryl Streep and her The Devil Wears Prada alter-ego, Miranda Priestley, but they do seem to have one thing in common; their eye for Manhattan real estate. While we’ve long known of Priestley’s stylish townhouse, the recent listing of Streep’s Tribeca penthouse for $24.6 million has opened our eyes to the star’s similarly sophisticated taste. The three-time Academy award winner and her husband, sculptor Donald Gummer, scooped up the 3,944-square-foot apartment in 2006 for just $10 million, and stand to make a sizable profit should it sell for anywhere near its asking price. News of the sale comes eight months after the couple purchased a mid-century modern in Pasadena for $3.6 million.Streep may be looking for a change of scenery, of which this penthouse offered plenty; floor-to-ceiling windows are present throughout while a ten-foot-wide terrace wraps around three sides of the apartment. In the master suite, windows facing West and North offer views of passing boats in the Hudson River. The unit, accessed via private elevator, also features a wood-burning fireplace, Brazilian walnut plank floors, and pocket doors to cut up the open floor plan at a moment’s notice. Those leaning more towards the Julia Child side of Streep’s repertoire will feel right at home in the Varenna kitchen, which is outfitted with a double-wide refrigerator, two Miele ovens, and a dark butcher block island offering an abundance of cooking and prep space.Jan Hashey and Steve Halprin of Douglas Elliman have the listing, which was first reported by Curbed.Photographs courtesy of Douglas EllimanOne would be hard-pressed to find any shared character traits between Meryl Streep and her The Devil Wears Prada alter-ego, Miranda Priestley, but they do seem to have one thing in common; their eye for Manhattan real estate.
