Mindy Kaling Reels in a Buyer for Her Chic Downtown Manhattan Pied-à-Terre

At One Kenmare Square, TV powerhouse Mindy Kaling has left the building. Well, almost.

The actress/screenwriter/producer’s NYC pied-à-terre on the cusp of Nolita and SoHo is now in contract after she listed it in September of last year. Kaling purchased the airy, transitional residence in 2017 for $3.1 million and priced it at $2.75 million when it hit the market. While the price it is in contract for is unknown, it’s clear the celeb initially made this real estate move willing to take a loss.

The glass-clad, 1,166-square-foot pad with 10-foot ceilings was a breath of fresh air for Kaling. According to a 2017 feature in Elle Decor, the comedian strayed from her typical more-is-more interior style and instead embraced a minimalist aesthetic punctuated by pops of vibrant, warm colors and earthy textures. Kaling told Elle Decor, “The first time I walked into the space after One Kings Lane designed it, I thought, ‘Who is this chic person who lives here?’ It’s not me, it looks amazing!”

From pictures, it seems the home was staged for the market or perhaps Kaling simply made changes over the years. The neutral and bright backdrop with huge windows is a versatile, blank canvas for the new owner. It has just what one or two people or a small family needs for a quiet refuge in the city: A kitchen, dining/living area, two bedrooms, two baths, and ample closets.

Just outside the building, which offers a 24-hour doorman, the downtown scene is abuzz. Within steps and blocks of One Kenmore Square, there are trendy bars and restaurants, high-end shops, and museums to dive into.

Carl Gambino of Compass is representing Kaling in the sale, which the NY Post first spotted.
