Oprah Winfrey Sells a Serene Estate on Orcas Island for $14M

A Pacific Northwest home that Oprah Winfrey scooped in 2018 is now out of the powerhouse’s hands. Dubbed Madroneagle, it sits on Orcas Island offering rustic serenity on almost 41 acres. Sold in an off-market deal, the home didn’t make the cut to remain a longtime property of Oprah’s, but the mystery buyer can now cherish it after splashing out $14 million.

Records show Oprah snagged the waterfront property for $8.275 million, so she is walking away with a tidy profit. But, what doesn’t the billionaire, who has built an empire, excel at? It was clearly a sound investment, but Oprah did have other thoughts for the peaceful retreat at one point.

Wally Gudgell of Windermere Real Estate/Orcas Island represented the seller in this sale. Gudgell shares, “It was going to be a vacation home, but they figured they would never use it, so decided not to keep it.”

It’s easy to see why it would make the perfect getaway, tucked in a quiet corner of the Pacific Northwest. At the time Oprah purchased it, a previous listing shows that the estate held 7,303-square-feet of living space with dreamy amenity after dreamy amenity. It offered everything from a library to a wine cellar to a wood-fired pizza oven. And if the interview pro renovated or expanded it, the property could be even more impressive now.

Of course, the great outdoors also shine here with trails, a beach, a pond, a stream, and a sauna. Framed by tall trees and views, it has a natural and wild beauty year-round.

Gudgell commented that Oprah and Bob Greene, her well-known personal trainer and property manager, “have invested heavily in this community and will continue to be involved in the community.” Could that include a new Orcas Island home eventually? Only time will tell.
