Artists have their specialties, from watercolor to sculpture, and so do architects. For Richard Landry, his claim to fame is creating L.A. megamansions and estates for the stars. High-profile figures like Mark Wahlberg, Dr. Dre, and Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen have owned Landry designs, and now we can officially add another big name to the long list. British-born crooner Rod Stewart just listed his ultra-private English Country-style estate designed by the starchitect, seeking a staggering $70 million for it.
Stewart bought the three-acre Beverly Hills property in 1991 for $12.08 million and tapped Landry to create his residence, according to the Wall Street Journal. The main house is a mammoth clocking in at 28,500 square feet and boasting nine bedrooms. Along with a four-bedroom guest house, it’s set on grounds holding everything from a lighted soccer field to a tennis court.
Once through two sets of gates and approaching the facade, a romantic fountain and motor court greet you before a grand yellow manor. Inside, a traditionally formal aesthetic that could be found in any aristocratic English house is woven throughout. From the circular moldings around sparkling chandeliers to the rich wood paneling, it’s difficult to find a corner that truly reads casual. Yet, many spaces still feel inviting whether you are tempted to read by a fireplace, take breakfast in the Tea Room, or entertain into the wee hours of the night in the mansion’s speakeasy. Stewart could also relish in spaces like the screening room, wine room, library, and more.
Life here might seem like a constant staycation with all the perks inside and out. Many outdoor living areas look out to the pool and spa, but also to the gardens, fountains, and mountain views.
