Whether you are looking to create a whimsical spread for a girls’-night-in Galentine’s celebration or a romantic setting for a candlelit dinner, designer Jennifer Hunter shares her top tips for creating a swoon-worthy tabletop for Valentine’s Day.

  1. Start with linens, as a tablecloth will serve as the backdrop for the tablescape and make quite the statement. You will want to consider the color, pattern, and size of your tablecloth.
  2. Add lots of layers, bringing in decorative objects from other parts of your home. I always love incorporating little objets from my Herend animal collection, decorative vessels, and even on-theme accents like lipstick and costume jewelry. It is these unexpected accents that keep your tablescape dynamic and engaging.
  3. Create height in your tablescape. Try incorporating varying heights to add visual interest and keep your eye moving around the table. A few easy ways to do this is through candlesticks, cake stands stacked with donuts, and floral arrangements.
  4. Think outside of the box. While fresh flowers are always a must, try bringing in seasonal fruit or petit fours to create a still life. This adds texture, interest, and makes your table irresistible!
