Shonda Rhimes Lists Dramatically Renovated LA Mansion for $25M
What do Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and this LA home all have in common? They’ve all been touched by Shonda Rhimes’ genius. The television writer, producer, and showrunner rightfully has an abode fit for a Bridgerton queen. Now, the Wall Street Journal reports Rhimes has listed the Hancock Park residence, which she beautifully renovated, for $25 million.
Glowing with Italian style, the dramatic estate has plenty of space for a creator to think with an 11,700-square-foot main villa, separate guesthouse (with a hair salon), and a cabana. Set behind gates away from prying eyes and spoiler-seekers, it’s no wonder Rhimes chose to call it home.
The property dates back to 1923 and has an enchanting atmosphere to match. The famous showrunner executed a rewrite of the home when she purchased it for about $8.8 million in 2014. According to what listing agent Ed Solórzano of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties shared with the WSJ, Rhimes spent 3-4 years on the thorough renovation. Interior designer Michael Smith, who created spaces in the White House for the Obamas, and architect Bill Baldwin were both key players in its transformation.
A buyer with deep pockets will benefit greatly from this effort. Restored original details, added skylights, and rebuilt fireplaces bring timeless beauty. Now that the revamp is long complete, however, Rhimes is moving on in search of a new project. The listing agent told the WSJ this is her reason for selling the 7-bedroom, 12-bath residence.
Much like waiting for her next show, it’s certainly exciting to ponder what property she will work her magic on next.
