Is there anything Swarovski won’t stick crystals on? At Euroluce, the biennial lighting show at the annual Milan furniture fair (see “Travel by Design,”), the fabled Austrian atelier unveiled a line of artful fixtures positively studded with the glittery stuff. Designers Andre Kikoski, S. Russell Groves, Todd Bracher and Stephen Burks all contributed innovative reinterpretations of the “iconic chandelier, making it architectural but at the same time dramatic and graceful,” says Groves, whose “Crystalline Icicles” fixtures require as many as 3,400-plus crystals. A “blanket of snow” inspired Kikoski’s “ReveaLED” designs of square forms jam-packed with crystals, specifically the scene in Dr. Zhivago “when Julie Christie and Omar Sharif pull up to the dacha and the house is silhouetted in the moon and all that snow—it’s so elegant.” Bracher, meanwhile, took a pared-down approach with his “Strandeliers,” which look like shimmery hoop skirts without the skirts, and Burks experimented with crystal’s light-refracting, prismatic qualities, exploring “both the artisanal aspect of crystal manufacture and its modern applications.”
Crystal and leather “Crystal Empire” chandelier from Swarovski’s Lighting Centerpieces line; from $6,145, swarovski.com/architecture to order
