The Founder of Decorist Is Selling Her Sonoma Stunner for $12.5M

Gretchen Hansen, the founder and former CEO of Decorist, is selling her stunning Sonoma home for $12.5 million. Hansen founded Decorist in 2014 and sold it to Bed Bath & Beyond in 2017 but the company shut down in 2022, according to Business of Home. Hansen established the online platform to connect homeowners to design professionals. As such a design-minded individual, it comes as no surprise this California listing boasts big design allure both inside and out.

The seller lived at this 6,350-square-foot residence on Sonoma Mountain with her family. The home was originally built in 1981, but Hansen worked with Elevation Architects, Jennifer Weiss Architecture, and Nicole Heininger of est. collective to give it a facelift. “I wanted to keep these classic modern and organic elements and make the house feel very current by bringing in all new materials including marble, limestone, plaster and oak, so it’s now a very fresh take on a classic form,” she told Mansion Global.

The sleek, neutral, contemporary stunner boasts five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and one half-bath. The primary suite is complete with 13-foot-high ceilings, a fireplace, and a spa-like bathroom. The home pays homage to its location in the Sonoma Valley with a 1,500-bottle wine cellar.

Outside, there is plenty of space to take in the sweeping views of Mount Diablo, San Pablo Bay, and the San Francisco skyline—from the swimming pool and hot tub to the fire pit, sun decks, and grilling area.

Caroline Sebastiani and Kristie Eddy of Sotheby’s International Realty – Wine Country Sonoma Brokerage hold the well-designed listing.
