The Legendary Grey Gardens Estate Finally Closes for $15.5M

Originally listed in February for $19.995 million, the East Hamptons spread received a $2 million price cut in April and has now closed for $15.5 million.Built in 1897, the home rose to fame because of its well-known former residents, “Big Edie” Bouvier Beale, Jackie O’s aunt, and “Little Edie” Beale. A 1975 documentary, appropriated called Grey Gardens, outlined the lives of Jackie O’s reclusive relatives and the neglect of the house.In 1979, journalist Sally Quinn and her late husband, Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee, who Tom Hanks is portraying in the movie The Post, purchased the home, renovated it, and enjoyed their time there for many decades. However, since her husband’s passing in 2014, Quinn hasn’t felt the same in the seven bedroom, 6,000-square-foot house, which is why she decided to sell.Now, with the deal officially closed, another couple who adores the shingle-style home will be moving in and creating a new chapter in the historic residence’s story. The Corcoran Group's Michael Schultz represented the property and stated that the new owners plan on lovingly restoring it.
