There’s something about starting from scratch, whether cooking or creating a home, that makes the final product that much sweeter. At least, that was true for a couple in Fairfield County with two high school-aged kids. They set out to build a one-of-a-kind home, dreaming of a house that married function with style and would serve all their entertaining needs. Working with an expert design team they hand-selected, the modern Tudor-style home they created is nothing short of a work of art.

Considering their past experience with new builds and major remodels, this was not the homeowners’ first rodeo. Since their home was designed with stone in mind, they knew their project required the best materials and that meant bringing in Gault Stone. With exceptional products to choose from and personal service, Gault gave them the freedom to customize to their heart’s content. No one else’s home will ever look just like theirs.

Gault shares, “The Modern Tudor style of this home allowed for a lot of creativity with both the stone product choices as well as their applications and cuts throughout the home. This, coupled with many custom stone fabrication elements throughout, made this project really unique and exciting to work on.”

The homeowners were heavily involved in the stone selection and design process. Gault took their inspiration and made it a reality with the goal to create a home they would love living in.

The veneer stone on the base of the home, pool, and walls was custom blended by Gault with local granites to create a mix of dark grays and browns. Carefully curating the style, the square and rectangle cuts of the veneer stone exudes a more modern aesthetic while the mix of colors is in line with classic New England.

Inside, spaces were given the royal treatment as well. All four fireplaces were custom fabricated by Gault, with unique features including the leather finish of the Magic Black granite fireplace surround in the office and soapstone firebrick in the great room fireplace. When it came to the kitchen, the homeowner selected Calacutta Gold to adorn the countertops. Gault fabricators then created a statement backsplash, running the marble slab up behind the glass cabinetry for a show-stopping effect.

Having beautiful gathering spaces inside and out for all occasions was a must for the homeowners. This desire stayed front of mind with the design of the great room, the pool house, and beyond. The vast patios around the main house are made of Chateau limestone, a bold contrast to the stucco of the exterior. Down by the pool, Chatham Grey granite was chosen due to its lighter color, which doesn’t hold as much heat as a darker stone.

Perfect for anything from a family barbecue to a formal backyard wedding, this modern Tudor-style home exudes grandeur yet remains inviting. The entire project was extremely collaborative, with the pool design by Shoreline Pools, architecture by the Vita Design Group, construction by Coastal Luxury Homes, landscape design by Devore Associates, and masonry work by Igor Kurbatov.

Stone by stone, the homeowners built a residence they can cherish for a lifetime and take pride in. With decades of experience, Gault guided them through the stone process from the first consultation and sourcing to fabrication and installation.
