Vice Media Co-Founder Lists Revamped Santa Monica Villa for $50M
Billionaire media magnate Shane Smith and his wife, Tamyka, transplanted from the East Coast to West Coast with something iconic in mind for their new home. The Vice Media co-founder told Mansion Global they were looking for “a Chateau Marmont-style escape.” They found and built upon such atmosphere at Villa Ruchello, a property in Santa Monica dating back to 1932. With the help of designer Kerry Joyce, they spent millions renovating it to feel relaxed yet reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour. Now asking $50 million, Villa Ruchello has a timeless allure and could surely warrant its own VICE documentary.
The home is spread across three Mediterranean-style structures for a total of 14,000 square feet, 13 bedrooms, and 13 bathrooms. It could at first be mistaken for a film set or resort, and its size is certainly worthy. Amenities like a 74-foot, pool house, bocce court, cedar soaking tub, and lawns for large-scale entertaining sit amidst lush palms and vibrant landscaping. The 3.35-acre property is one of the largest residential lots in the neighborhood. Guarded by antique gates and tree-lined borders, privacy and scale are prioritized in equal measure.
Certainly impressive on its own, the main house boasts decorative elements like hand-blown chandeliers from Venice and Moroccan ceramic tiles. Then out on the grounds, gardens populated by orange, lemon, lime, and avocado trees as well as vegetables and herbs are a farm-to-table delight.
Santiago Arana of The Agency holds the listing.
