West Elm and Rent the Runway Partner to Deliver Home Décor Rentals

Rent the Runway has become the go-to solution for whenever someone is feeling bored of his or her wardrobe, has a special occasion to dress for, or just wants to try out a designer outfit before deciding to buy it. The high-end clothing rental platform has changed the way people dress and shop, and now it will do the same for home décor by offering good from West Elm.

Starting this summer, members can choose from 26 textile bundles from West Elm to shake up the look of their homes with new decorative pillows, shams, throws, coverlets and quilts. These offerings will be organized as bedroom packages or living room packages, so people can decorate the rooms where they spend the most time and really live with the items.

After ten years of sticking to clothing and accessory rentals, Rent the Runway is taking a big step into the home décor world with this partnership. Members, who get to select 4 items to try per month, can now dress their home up to fit their mood or the season and easily make a purchase if the chic textile is something they can’t live without. If members love this new addition, it could attract other brands as well, changing the game of the luxury home décor industry completely.

The COO of Rent the Runway, Maureen Sullivan, told Business Insider, “The magic of rental is that you feel unconstrained by the burden of ownership.” Instead of feeling the pressure to make a permanent decision, there is beauty in the ability to experiment with different looks and styles.

West Elm has previously made their products available to rent on a website called Feather, but Rent the Runway's nine million members may broaden their reach even further.
