How did the idea for The Other Art Fair come about?
The Other Art Fair was born from a realization of the disparity between an audience eager to discover the next big thing and talented artists struggling to gain recognition. Seven years on and with fairs strongly established in the US, UK, and Australia, the effects of the fair's growing reputation are not only demonstrated through the support of leading individuals in the art world but also the frequency of success stories from past exhibitors.
How do you decide what artists to work with?
Exhibitors are handpicked by a selection committee of art world experts. To keep the fair unbiased and accessible to everyone, each fair has a different selection committee with a fresh set of opinions. This way no two fairs are the same. For the upcoming fall edition of The Other Art Fair Brooklyn fair we had over 750 applications of a very high standard – with just over 130 spaces available the competition is high!

What can attendees expect to see/experience?
The Other Art Fair's position of fostering a unique art experience like no other has created a platform for the 'unexpected' through a series of distinctive art installations and projects.
Alongside 130 exhibitors, this editions line up features hand poke tattoos by Bluestone Babe, a work of performance art ‘gamification’ by artist David Aston, two-hour portraits by Carl Grauer and large-scale installations by Adam Daley Wilson and Joey Knox.
The Sketchbook Project returns to the fair with their Bookmobile and the brand new Illustration Corner project space, presented by Moleskine, will offer visitors the opportunity to get involved with their unique drop in, workshop-style illustration projects. Plus you can expect DJ performances throughout the weekend, cocktails from Don Julio and food and coffees from Greenpoint favorites Maman.
What types of mediums are featured?
There is always a wide variety of work; you can expect to find a range of painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, digital art and mixed media.

What is the importance of having a guest artist like Mike Perry at the Fair?
In support of Free Arts NYC, Emmy Award winning Brooklyn artist Mike Perry has produced a limited edition of 200 prints of his work ‘Lets Get Together’ to sell exclusively at the fair. All proceeds will benefit FREE ARTS NYC, whose mission is to empower undeserved youth through art and mentoring programs to develop their creativity, confidence and skills to succeed.
