Actress Jennifer Lawrence Sells Upper East Side Penthouse for Almost $10M
Though far less extreme than The Hunger Games, the real estate game can be unpredictable and there are often winners and losers when deals are made. Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, who famously played Katniss Everdeen, happens to have taken a loss on the sale of her Upper East Side penthouse. Property records show that the deal just closed for $9.9 million, a significantly lower amount than the $15.6 million she paid for it in 2016. However, there’s always a silver lining. With Lawrence’s 30th birthday just a week away, it may feel like an early birthday present to finally have the pricey property out of her portfolio.
Listing agent Pamela D’Arc of Compass declined to comment on the deal, but the mysterious buyer can certainly count this as a win since the penthouse was last seen asking $12 million.
Full of chic open spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows, it’s no shock a young A-lister would be drawn to it in the first place. Light pours into the 4,073-square-foot dwelling from all angles, creating a blissful atmosphere. Though the unit is high on the 31st floor of The Laurel, it harnesses the energy of Manhattan with 360-degree city views always in sight.
Even closer to the clouds, the roof terrace with a turf lawn is all set for year-round outdoor living. It holds an idyllic pergola with a fireplace and lounge, a grill area, a ping pong table, and of course, divine space for dining al fresco.
J. Law is not fleeing the city for good, at least not at the moment. The beloved star still owns a unit in 443 Greenwich.
