Architect-to-the-Stars Richard Landry Sells His Custom-Built LA Stunner for $19.5M

What do Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, Mark Wahlberg, Sylvester Stallone, Dr. Dre, Kylie Jenner, and Kourtney Kardashian all have in common? Besides some obvious familial relations, all have had homes designed by Richard Landry. The architect, known as the King of the Megamansion, has devised residences for many stars, but to see his own LA home is a true treat. It just sold off-market for $19.5 million, becoming the highest sale in the city’s Brentwood neighborhood south of San Vicente Boulevard.

President and founder of Landry Design Group, the starchitect has a global portfolio. A project unlike any other, Landry and his husband, Chris Drugan, purchased the 13,200-square-foot lot in 2015 and began brainstorming. Over the next three years, they custom-designed, built, decorated, and landscaped this six-bedroom stunner. It was important to merge Drugan’s more traditional leanings with Landry’s contemporary vision, with Landry telling Luxe in 2021, “We each had veto rights for the other’s ideas.”

The melded masterpiece is tough to define style-wise, other than gorgeous. It all starts at the facade, where a shimmering stainless steel garage contrasts a gray brick exterior. Inside, the open floorplan and walls of glass air towards sleek while aspects like the English-inspired garden off the primary suite, complete with intricate boxwoods, feel enchanting and timeless.

Other highlights include the long gabled atrium, abstract sculptures scattered outside, and baby blue kitchen with double islands. One can’t forget the pool and spa, either, set easily next to a covered patio.

Morgan Trent and Aaron Kirman of Aaron Kirman Group at Compass represented the seller. Trent says, “The attention to detail in this home is unlike anything I have ever seen, and I’ve seen just about everything! This home absolutely deserves the record-setting price we received.”
