Dodgers Owner Lists LA Masterpiece Once Home to W.C. Fields

Alright, Mr. De Mille, I’m ready for my address! Isn’t that how the line goes? A property along Los Feliz’s De Mille Drive has hit the market, owned by Dodgers part-owner Robert (Bobby) Patton, Jr. and his wife, Sherri. The name of the street alone evokes an Old Hollywood allure, aided by an abundance of movie star neighbors. Located within the Laughlin Park enclave of Los Feliz—which has also been home to Angelina Jolie, Kristen Stewart, and Natalie Portman, among others—the gated residence asks $15 million.

Dubbed the W.C. Fields Estate after its famous past resident, the circa-1920 masterpiece was home to the comedian from 1940 to 1946. The 8,000-square-foot main house, created by architect W.M. Clarke, counts 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms within its walls. Done in the Italianate style with a hint of inspiration taken from the Beaux-Arts movement, the spread features antique mahogany paneling and an endless array of archways. Woodwork imported from a monastery in Spain graces at least one room. Needless to say, period details abound throughout, then all spaces effortlessly flow outside to sun-drenched terraces.

Rumor has it that Frank Lloyd Wright’s son, Lloyd Wright, designed the vast gardens and grounds. If this is true, it adds a whole new layer to the property’s prestige. Either way, the landscaping is stunning with mature, solid trees anchored by a bevy of plants forming a beautiful wall of privacy around the pool.

Victoria Massengale and Michael Maguire of Compass hold the listing.
