Late Designer Vince Camuto’s Grand Greenwich Chateau Is Going to Auction
Shoe-designing legend and Nine West co-founder Vince Camuto unsurprisingly had a Greenwich home worthy of the glitziest parties. After his passing in 2015, the estate did appear on the market, but now it will go to auction in August with no reserve. It was last formally listed for $26.5 million.
Sitting pretty on over 4.5 acres and spanning a whopping 16,301-square-feet, it’s a masterpiece comparable to the “cottages” in Newport or mansions in the Berkshires. Chateau Ridge was built in 1927 and boasts commanding Normandy style that transports you right to France. Ivy-covered walls, Cathedral-esque windows, high iron gates, boxwood mazes, and more: It is truly destined to enchant.
Camuto restored and furnished the entire mansion and his divine vision remains. The auction will even include all the detailed antiques, artwork, and handcrafted fixtures he put in place.
Louise Camuto, the seller and the designer’s widow, shares, “I think this house is extraordinary. You are not going to find another house like this that has the same quality of craftsmanship. It is just beautifully made. This is my most favorite part about living here. It just feels so solid and so well built. It will stand for another 100 years.”
The home’s grand living areas with limestone fireplaces from a French Monastery or frescoed walls do more than impress, but the outdoor spaces are also fit for a queen or king. A mesmerizing pool flows into a covered grotto and elegant terraces abound. Har-Tru courts and a tennis house also sit on the grounds.
Affluent buyers worldwide can bid on the estate since the auction will be virtual. It will be held by Concierge Auctions on August 12-15, via ConciergeAuctions.com, in cooperation with Shelly Tretter Lynch and Kimberly Johnson of Compass.
