The guest house on this Greenwich property is reminiscent of a classic New England barn. Renowned colorist Donald Kaufman helped determine the deep green hue for the board and batten exterior. “Dark green is a color sometimes found on old New England barns, and rather than being a big box on the hill, the color helps it recede into the landscape,” architect Tom McManus of Ferguson & Shamamian Architects says.

For his breakfast nook, off of which on opposite sides are the color-intensive living room and den, designer Erick Espinoza employed a quiet shade of green for the door, window and ceiling trims. Vintage chairs from Shaker Workshops surround the table in the breakfast room, where a vinyl floorcloth through Spicher and Company references a design in the American Folk Art Museum Collection.

For the study in the 2022 Hampton Designer Showhouse, Barbara Lewis of the Lewis Design Group chose a decorating scheme of soft greens layered with organic textures and natural motifs. A floral Lee Jofa fabric on the windows and faux bois pattern on the walls helped her achieve her goal.
Designer Christina Nielsen selected olive Plain English cabinetry for a Berkshire, UK, kitchen, and removed upper cabinets in favor of open shelving. “My favorite color combinations are purples and greens,” Nielsen notes
