As is the case with many markets in the U.S. right now, New York City has slid into an era where buyers have the edge. According to a Rocket Homes report, the city is definitively in a buyer’s market. Comparing January 2022 to January 2023, inventory is up, and, in Manhattan specifically, so is the average sale time (86 days in 2022, 128 days in 2023).
So, potential sellers need to know how their property will be perceived by buyers. That’s why for the New York Design Guide 2023, the editors of NYC&G asked top NYC agents what clients want most right now. Here’s what they had to say.
1. “Turnkey townhouses in Brooklyn are in more demand than super-high-end condos right now.” – Lindsay Barton Barrett, Douglas Elliman
2. “Freshly renovated and painted properties.” – Mike Fabbri, Nest Seekers
3. “Outdoor space and more privacy in general.” – Philip Tabor, The Corcoran Group
4. “Location is still the most important component of all.” – Mike Fabbri, Nest Seekers
5. “Dedicated office space.” – Lindsay Barton Barrett, Douglas Elliman
