Vice’s Shane Smith Breaks Big Records with Santa Monica Home Sale

Mere months after listing their Santa Monica compound, Vice Media co-founder Shane Smith and his wife, Tamyka Smith, have made a major sale. The billionaire media magnates just sold the estate for $48.6 million, setting a new record for the priciest home sale in both Santa Monica and in the Pacific Palisades. With an original asking price of $50 million, only marginally higher, the Smiths have much to celebrate. Especially since, according to the Los Angeles Times, they picked up the property in 2015 for $23 million.

Villa Ruchello, as it is known, spans 3.35 acres and three homes for a total of 13 bedrooms and 12.5 bathrooms within 14,000 square feet. The Mediterranean-style property was built in 1932, undergoing a recent renovation to upgrade its old school glamour with the help of designer Kerry Joyce. But, its history is more than just when it was built. Through the years, members of Fleetwood Mac have resided at the address. It also appeared in Entourage, so the estate exudes star power.

As for the record set, it seems it wasn’t even close in Pacific Palisades. The LA Times reports that an estate that sold for $33.85 million back in 2018 previously held the title. Then, The Observer‘s 2017 report on Santa Monica’s largest sale had the number at approximately $41 million.

Santiago Arana of The Agency held this pricey listing, while Richard Ehrlich of Westside Estate Agency represented the buyer.
